About & Things You Need To Know

The Old Farmhouse Shepherd’s Hut is super comfortable and finished to a very high standard and feels spacious,  light and luxurious with a fully plumbed shower room at one end with a spacious walk in power shower, hand basin, loo and heated towel rail. At the other end overlooking glorious surrounding views through two large windows is a very comfortable king size bed with its own little nook at the head end and a half partition at the foot end. In between there is a spacious kitchen area with a Belfast sink and mixer tap along with a dining table and bench seating area with double french doors overlooking the gravelled garden and wildflowers.

Please note there are four easily manageable steps up to the french doors into the Shepherd's Hut, as can be seen in the images on this website, but no handrail.

It’s fully equipped with everything you might need such as pots and pans, a large variety of cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, and glasses.

If you want or need more than we provide South Harting Stores is excellent and has most things you might want or need. Both Petersfield and Chichester have excellent shopping facilities including Waitrose and Tesco stores. Petersfield has a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays and a Farmer's Market on the first Sunday of every month.

There is free WifI available but please be aware 4G mobile signal is dependent on your provider. There are several USB sockets in the power sockets.

The lights are controlled by dimmer switches so you can create exactly the right mood at anytime during your stay.

In the unlikely event of a power cut or outage, we have a back up generator that also supplies the Shepherd's Hut.

The French Doors and windows are double glazed and all are fitted with thermal, blackout Roman Blinds to keep you cosy and warm.

There is plenty of storage space under the bed to store luggage etc. and the dining table can be taken apart and stored under the bed when not being used.

Outside The Old Farmhouse Shepherd’s Hut there is a bistro table and two chairs and a fire pit with a BBQ top. For safety reasons we do ask that the fire pit and/or BBQ is extinguished before you go to bed at night. Please feel free to take the throws outside if required, but please make sure you take them back into the Shepherd's Hut so they don't get damp or wet.

The Old Farmhouse Shepherd's Hut is on a single track country lane that has minimal traffic on it.  There is a 5 bar timber electric gate operated by a keypad on the gate post with a short gravelled drive to private, off road parking for one car and the Shepherd's Hut which has an automatic outside light that comes on it if you arrive after dark.

As dog lovers, we welcome one well behaved dog, but do ask all our guests to ensure their dog is as clean and dry as possible before being allowed into the Shepherd’s Hut and that no dogs are allowed on the bed or bedding at any time. We also ask that no dogs are left on their own in the Shepherd’s Hut at any time in case they cause any damage.

There is an abundance of beautiful walks on our doorstep in and around North Marden that you can start from the Shepherd’s Hut. North Marden and the surrounding downland area is justifiably very popular with both walkers and cyclists.

Dark skies are a special quality of the South Downs, providing clear starry views (including the Milky Way) that benefit people and wildlife. There is an atmosphere of rural tranquillity in the downland valley. It is completely undeveloped and has one of the highest tranquillity scores in the South Downs National Park; and, at night, it is totally dark and without any noise at all apart from the odd car driving along the single track lane.

All bedding, towels etc are changed and cleaned between every stay, however as we provide dog friendly accommodation, as much as we do our utmost to remove it all, we cannot guarantee there will not be any stray hairs on the bedding or any other items.

We supply a dirty laundry bag for used bed linen and towels and kindly ask you to place these into this bag at the end of your stay before leaving.
